Recently a 5 year old porcelain crown ( lower back) broke off while I was eating. It couldn't be replaced due to the fact some tooth and filling had broken off with it. The dentist told me that I would need a new crown, with posts and root filling. He told me to keep the broken crown safe so I could show the new dentist about to take over the practice for colour matching. He showed me xrays of the roots, said they were good an...

Having not had dental treatment for c.7 years (not a great starting point I know!) I registered and went for a dental checkup a few months ago and unsurprisingly needed 3 fillings. On treatment for one of the fillings the decay was greater than originally thought and close to the nerve, and so the dentist recommended root canal treatment and then covering the tooth with a crown. Over the years I have had 2 crowns fitted on my top front right tooth. I recently had the crown replaced for a 3rd time because the previous one kept coming loose. The new crown is smaller than my other tooth. The previous crowns were a perfect pit, my dentist even took a mould with my previous crown. I just had a temporary crown fitted on my front tooth and it has made the gap between my teeth wider and squinter, will this be corrected when my real crown is fitted? I'm getting a full porcelain crown in 2 weeks.

My dentist has advised me to have a crown put on my upper 1st premolar, which was treated 12 years ago with a root canal. The tooth is completely intact, and since the treatment I have had no problems. I am concerned getting a crown may create more problems for a unproblematic tooth, for example decay may happen under the crown. Is the crown necessary in this instance?

I had a crown put in 20 years ago. It has been put back in about 6 times during this period. My current dentist tells me that it cannot be put in again because I have a fracture in the root. This missing tooth is a front upper tooth. What are my options?
