I have a dilemma with a tooth which had root canal treatment four years ago, done privately (and expensive!). All has been fine so far, but on a routine x-ray with a new dentist, it shows there is infection on the tip of one of the roots/canals! I have no symptoms whatsoever. My dentist has said this can be treated by redoing the one canal and replacing the crown. (expensive!) But has also said it is a dormant infection that m...

I need root canal on one of my back molars. My dentist has said she can do it on the NHS for 53.90 but because she is a generalist and because the surgery doesn’t have the right equipment she estimates a 50% success rate. She says it would be better if I went private but this will cost about £650 and will have 80/90% success. What should I do?

When I was 9 I had a bad accident and smashed both my two front teeth. This left me for many years experiencing lots of painful treatments including root canal treatment. When I was 18 I was referred to a dental hospital where I received new root canal treatment and two crowns ( I think). It was brilliant and has lasted me 15 years nearly with no problems at all. About 3 months ago when I have a terrible cold I started to get ...

I have just had the second stage of my root canal treatment done. My dentist did his best but I have deep roots and its a molar with 3 roots. He showed me on an x-ray afterwards that in one of the roots he could not reach the root canal filling all the way to the top of the root having to leave probably about 1mm unfilled. He explained that trying harder could result in breaking through the root canal which I have had 13 years...

Hi, I was chewing some gum and either part of my tooth broke off or a crown (I can't actually remember) my dentist has told me that my only option is to pay £650 for a root canal "under the microscope" or have the tooth removed. Would a standard root canal treatment on the NHS not be sufficient? Last time I went to the same dentist he told me I would require a root canal, and that they were not provided by the NHS - therefore ...

I have a deep rooted absess that antibiotics won't shift. It isn't painful. I have been referred to a private dentist for root canal but his prices start at £650 and they have advised it could be up to £900. I am being charged £90 just for an assessment when I have been referred by my dentist. Am I being fleeced? Looking online and speaking to others, £500 seems to be the going price?

I have been advised i need re-root treatment. it is going to cost nearly £500. I have had no discomfort from the tooth, I did have a very painful abscess under the tooth about three years ago which is why i had the first root treatment done. If I decide not to go ahead, partly because it is not 100% guaranteed success Is there any risk to my other teeth because of the underlying infection in that tooth? Is it advisable to go a...
