Could someone help me,please?I just signed a contract with my dentist for a smile make over which will cost me a fortune.we started with the upper teeth and needed 8 crowns.(i had 6 before which needed replaced anyway).the treatment was done,and crowns placed.the dr said he s going to make the crowns a bit larger so i can show some teeth when i talk/smile.the crowns came,colour ok.there was some problems with the size so he sent 4 back and cemented 4.the ones he cemented have a space between the gums and the crown ,i even can stick my nail in between!initially,when he replaced the 6 crowns i already had,he commented the crowns were very bad made and a distance came up in time (7 years though)between the gum and crown.in the beginning he also said i might need gum surgery but it will be included in the price of the contract.afterwards e decides i don t need it.and now some white lines appeared on 2 crownsand i m thinking maybe bcs they are larger they don t absorb the pressure well …i don t know what to do.they costs me a lot and i wouldn t want to end up with the same problem i went with it,i don t think there should be a space between the gum and the crown.what are my options?would the dentist agree to change them ?do i need to cancel the contract and look for another dentist?please advice

I would really insist on him sorting it out unless you would like to pay someone else again , and then you must shop around and ask for patient references for the same treatment.

It is unacceptable when having a smile makeover with an emphasis on aesthetics to be left with what you are explaining . Your time scales are a bit vague were they done 7 years ago ?

You should send us some photos .

It is regrettable that you have this problem.
I suggest that you arrange to visit your dentist and give him the opportunity possibly to replace the crowns. Ask to see the crowns in position before they are cemented into place.
Your dentist may arrange a second opinion or you can attend another dentist recommended by a friend or family. You may wish to contact a member of this panel who works near to you.

You will need to send us a photo of the gum margins of your new crowns for us to give you an accurate answer .

When crowns cause gum recession then the crowns need to be removed to reverse this , Crown type has a large influence on the appearance of margins of crowns ,

STOP this treatment immediately

You need to talk to the dentist about your concerns before anything more is done

In a situation such as yours the ideal protocol would be

Study models and photos to plan your new smile
Mock up in wax of the new crowns for your approval
Use of this mock up to produce provisional crowns in the mouth while your gum health is being stabilised
Only once your gums are 100% perfect will your dentist know where to place the crown margins during the definitive preparation of the teeth for the final crowns
If these crowns are bonded to the teeth with a resin cement you should not be able to detect the margin unless the crowns are being used to dramatically change the colour of the teeth

If you dentist is not following the above then you need to ask why and be fully satisfied before proceeding
